History of the

WFDYS CHILDREN’S CAMP

The Youth Section of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFDYS) was formed during the World Congress of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) in Austria, 1995 and its main objective is to defend the rights of deaf youth in the world.
WFDYS runs the world camps: Children’s Camp (9 to 12 years old), Junior Camp (13 to 17 years old) and Youth Camp (18 to 30 years old). All these camps are held every four years and the hosts are decided during the Youth General Assemblies which are also held every four years.
The main objetives of the camps are to provide leadership training for deaf youth, support and promotion of youth organizations, networking and culture exchanges. These kind of events is relevant to celebrate our linguistic and cultural identity, seeking equal opportunities.
So far, four WFDYS Children’s Camps have been held:
We, the Camp Organization Committe (COC),
will host the 5th. WFDYS Children’s Camp
to be held in Colonia, Uruguay.

The Camp will be organized by a Committee (COC), that will be in charge of receiving deaf children between 9 and 12 years old.
